Luscious, green-eyed Murphy McGowen, brainy tramp and troublemaker from Anthill Acres Trailer Park, is not happy to find herself forcibly interned to work at Darlington Peach Orchard over spring break. Birdie Darlington, the shy, doughy daughter of the owner, finds Murphy upsetting, and it doesn`t help that Birdie`s yappy purebred puppies caught her breaking into the house. Even worse, Birdie`s rich, spoiled cousin, Leeda Cawley-Smith, whose stunning blonde beauty floors everyone except her mother, has been sent there on parents` orders to separate her from her boyfriend, Rex. These two unpleasant weeks create the basis of an intense and meaningful friendship among three very different girls that deepens over a summer of picking peaches in the hot Georgia orchard.
